One of the reasons we bought this house was the big arbutus tree growing in front. But I'd never really stopped to see this perspective of it before. It towers over our house by probably 100 feet.
This photograph makes me wonder what would happen it if toppled over on the house or driveway. Nothing would stand a chance. Good thing the trunk is so big at the bottom. I've actually never heard of one of these trees falling, though. Whew!
That arbutus has a huge trunk. Apparently they do fall, though. My daughter on Salt Spring had to take one of hers down because it was in danger and threatened the house. Yours looks much more settled.
ReplyDeleteSo glad your took a long shot so we could gauge how really big this tree is.
ReplyDeleteIt is huge ! Giant indeed but what a beautiful tree.
I remember last year (?) you had several photos of your tree and I thought what a beautiful tree. I have never seen one before. Must look this tree up. Hello goggle.
cheers, parsnip
Yes, it's an enormous tree isn't it? The leaves drop continuously between July and December so it creates a lot of raking. We don't need to join the gym!
