Summer's end

These photos were taken the other day at the community gardens just down the street. The gardens offer plots of land to apartment dwellers and it's a sweet place to wander around on a sunny morning.

Besides flowers there are lots of vegetables and even trees. But these bright flowers were what first caught my eye, especially shining in the sunlight.

Each gardener plants their own section and there's lots of variety. The zucchini are continuing to produce their beautiful flowers and fruit.

And the tomatoes are truly abundant this year. Often we get such cool rainy weather that they have to be brought inside in September to ripen. But not this year.  We've been eating tomatoes from our garden all month long.

Here's the home to the mason bees that work as pollinators in the garden.

Summer is quickly changing to fall. Our big end-of-summer party took place last night. It's an annual event to celebrate Harry's birthday, but this year it was held inside as the rain and wind swept through. Very welcome it was too, as it's been so dry. The light is changing in the evening too. Summer is winding down and we are getting ready for a trip to Eastern Canada in mid-September.
