Harvest time

It's the season of golden days and warm sun and the trees and vines up on Haliburton Hill are producing their bounty.

Our little apple tree has lots of apples this year and the grapes are ripening. These will be treats for the people who are staying in our house and taking care of the dogs while we're away.
I managed to pick enough blackberries to make one batch of jam for the winter. I couldn't leave without preparing a little memory of summer for our return.

This post is a test to see if I can get the photos onto the blog by using the ipad. It looks like I can but there's no way of positioning them or making them any bigger. But hey, that's ok. As long as I can post photos I will be able to share highlights of our trip.

  1. So envious of the fact you are able to pick your own fruit. The apples look fabulous. The jam sound divine !
I tried to have a very small veggie garden but no matter what I did to protect it the pack rats found a way to devoured it...
    You are so lucky.

    cheers, parsnip

    1. Pack rats? I've heard of them but I don't think we have them here. In fact I kind of thought they were mythological creatures! We have bunnies but I think the dogs keep them away. We have some little yellow pear tomatoes in our veggie garden that are awfully good. But I'm not the best of gardeners. I tend to let things go a little thirsty from time to time.

  2. I know if we managed to get grapes to that stage the critters would have eaten them. They have an uncanny ability to bypass green fruit and zero in on the ripe. We have to pick just a little green in order to save strawberries and tomatoes. Even green beans seem to be some animal's favorite.

  3. Hi Steph,
I've noticed that something's taking a big chomp out of some of the tomatoes. But so far the grapes are being left alone. Maybe it's because of our dogs.
