St. Cirq Lapoppie

In places the Lot River has carved miles of cliffs making stragic spots for villages and castles.  There are several stunning clifftop towns but none as spectacular as St. Cirq Lapoppie. This medieval village tumbles down hundreds of feet of steep terrain make it look like one building sits atop another. Its a lovely drive to get there through farmland and rural villages and then over a high rige. Once on the other side you are at st. Cirq and this is what you see.

We had lunch at a little cafe at the top and then walked down and down and down almost to the river.

Needless to say the return trip was harder but it helped us to work off our lunch.  On the way back we stopped at a wine store to buy a bottle of the deep Cahors Malbec wine to take home for dinner.  

Dinner was cooked at home on the barbeque. We purchased two pork chops in a little supermarket and in typical French fashion the package gave details of where the pigs lived and what foods they ate.  I just love the way the people here care so much a out the source of their food.  And I have to say that the chops were delicious, especially with the excellent wine.
