A trip to Muggia (x2)

This morning we took a little cruise on a boat to the fishing village of Muggia, just around the corner from Trieste.  Muggia (pronounced Moo-jah) is very cute with a tiny walled town dominated by an old castle.  We walked around and had some coffee, some spritz, and a marvellous seafood lunch at a reasonably priced co-op restaurant run by the fishermen. Here are a few photos from the trip.

Waiting on the dock for the boat
Muggia from the water as the boat docked
The buildings are all painted bright colours
Looking across the fish dock to the town
A pleasant cafe within the walls

A pre-lunch spritz in a little street

This man was reading a paper in an Eastern European language.

After our wonderful lunch (pasta marinara and calamari friti) we decided to take the bus back to town as the wind had come up.  It wasn't until I got off the bus back in Trieste that I suddenly noticed my purse wasn't with me anymore.

This entailed another trip back to Muggia on the bus and a step-by-step retracing of where we had been. We checked everywhere but sadly the purse was not to be found. Then we took the bus back to the central station to see if it was in the lost-and-found but it's not open now until Monday morning.  This was a kind of sad ending to a nice day as I had purchased this lovely green leather shoulder bag in Venice and it seems that is it gone for good.  Perhaps I left it somewhere or perhaps someone cut the strap on the bus.  In any case it's gone.  Fortunately there wasn't much in the bag except for a few coins and one credit card which I have now cancelled.

  1. Thanks for taking me along on such a lovely trip. Your snack looks wonderful. Love the kitty by the fish shop.
    Sorry about the bag.
When I was in Rome they would send some kids around you and then one would slit the bottom of the bag so everything would drop out. Then they would grab and run with what they thought was good.
But I never had any problems. I had a small purse that I wore inside my jacket. so no problem.

    cheers, parsnip

  2. Rotten luck about the bag, but at least there were so few items in that you couldn't do without.

Beautiful shots. And that kitty is adorable.
