The long stairway

I can't believe it's been almost a week since I've posted here.  It just proves my theorem that the rate of blogging is in inverse proportion to the busyness factor of one's life.  I'm not sure if that's a mathematically correct statement, but it's certainly been my experience this week.  In addition to our renovations we're dealing with a serious illness of a close family member, finding a new tenant for the upstairs suite at Yukon, making movies for my other blog, straining grapes for jelly, and the usual demands of home, bills, meals and dogs.  Doesn't leave a lot of time for blogging.

Still I wanted to show you this photo of the staircase up to the upper suite in the house on Yukon.  This is a very old house, built in 1898 when high ceilings were the fashion.  The original ceilings were 12 feet I think so the stairs up to the top floor are very long.  We chose to paint them a deep burgundy and white a couple of years ago and I still like the effect.  That box 2/3 of the way up the stairs is an old heat register from  the now-defunct oil furnace.  We left it there and my current tenant uses it as a planter stand.  She's moving into a larger place with her boyfriend at the end of the month.  Just today we finalized arrangements for a new tenant--a very nice woman with a five year old daughter who will move there in December.

Lately my life is feeling like a long stairway.  I just hope I'm getting close to the top.

  1. I've been wondering if reno business has kept you away.
That stairway is very attractive and seems to lead from light to light. Hope you get to the top soon.

I agree with your math on ratios. Some weeks are like that here, too.

  2. You never want to actually reach the top, though...Those are long, steep stairs!
