Celebration

If you want a celebration, cook food and pour wine.  That's my mantra for today's Nine Muses prompt: celebrate.  As this year draws to a close I like to think of people all over the world celebrating (with food and drink) the end of one year and the beginning of a brand new one.  Think of all incredible variety of food world wide cooked and enjoyed by people.

The photo above was taken at a cooking class given by my friend Kalayanee, who creates the most delicious Thai meals for small groups.  Six of us gathered at this lovely farmhouse on a Saturday evening as the snow fell outside.  We learned to cook red hot chicken wings, tiger prawn curry, fish in spicy coconut cream, hot and spicy soup, and asparagus salad.

And then we got to enjoy this fabulous food along with shared wine, laughter and conversation.  Truly it was a celebration of friendship and fun and the joy of cooking and eating.  What is your favorite celebratory food?  Whatever it is, I hope you enjoy some of it tonight while welcoming in the new year.

  1. The tiger prawn curry sounds good to me... excellent choice to celebrate with ! On a bed of rice, with white wine to wash it down with... that'll do it for me...

    :-)

Nothing like some good food in good company.

Wishing you an excellent 2011 !!!

  3. what a celebratory meal joanna!!! my own favourite celebratory meal is any meal that includes people i love. truly it is - i love all food except brussel sprouts - but if i was on a desert island and had to pick one meal it would likely be butter chicken with basmati rice and pakora and of course my own bowl of mango chutney with black forest cake for a sweet at the end. enjoy a happy new year joanna! steven

  4. Steven, you're so right about the inclusion of loved ones being the defining character. Your desert island meal sounds heavenly, especially the chutney. Happy new year to you as well.

  5. My favorite celebratory meal would be anything out of our garden. This year my birthday request was for vegetable soup and fresh bread - both homemade. It really is more about the people for me.
