G - Garlic and Ginger
This is an ode to garlic and ginger--perhaps the two most well-loved and well used standbys in my kitchen. They allow me to be creative in preparing meals with whatever I find in the fridge.
Tonight for example I made a stir fry with a piece of chicken cooked with GARLIC and GINGER, then I added sliced onions, celery, carrots and a big slop of Thai Peanut sauce, finishing it off with pieces of broccoli, and served it over steamed noodles. Voila--a tasty dinner. It wouldn't have been the same without those old standbys. I adore them separately but most of all cooked together.
What are your standbys in the kitchen

Nothing can beat garlic and ginger, but my go-to spice is almost always oregano. And I'm not sure you'd call it a staple, but I find that fresh mango livens up just about anything...mmm mmm!
ReplyDeleteboth are very good friends of mine - ginger paired with chocolate is capable of making me do almost anything when offered conditionally!!! steven
ReplyDeleteLemon !
ReplyDeleteI add it to almost everything especially any fish or meat. It helps wakes-up flavors.
Like you Ginger and Garlic are a staple in my kitchen.

Is there anything that garlic and ginger don't enhance? They're staples in our kitchen, too. Great choice for G!
ReplyDeleteI like the smell and taste of ginger but rarely use it in my own cooking. However, your menu is making my mouth water!
ReplyDeleteGarlic and ginger fan, here! Your dinner sounds scrumptious!! I love to use both in my meals; in fact, tonight garlic will be heavily featured in my pasta dish!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the follow. Looking forward to reading more from you, too!
Ah, yes! Thank you for reminding me about ginger, Joanna. Garlic and onions have always been a standby in our home. It's so funny--whenever I saute them and someone comes home, they always think something fancy is in the works in the kitchen. But now I'll add garlic and really surprise them!
