G - Garlic and Ginger


This is an ode to garlic and ginger--perhaps the two most well-loved and well used standbys in my kitchen.  They allow me to be creative in preparing meals with whatever I find in the fridge. 

Tonight for example I made a stir fry with a piece of chicken cooked with GARLIC and GINGER, then I added sliced onions, celery, carrots and a big slop of Thai Peanut sauce, finishing it off with pieces of broccoli, and served it over steamed noodles. Voila--a tasty dinner.  It wouldn't have been the same without those old standbys. I adore them separately but most of all cooked together.

  1. Nothing can beat garlic and ginger, but my go-to spice is almost always oregano. And I'm not sure you'd call it a staple, but I find that fresh mango livens up just about anything...mmm mmm!

  2. both are very good friends of mine - ginger paired with chocolate is capable of making me do almost anything when offered conditionally!!! steven

    I add it to almost everything especially any fish or meat. It helps wakes-up flavors.

    Like you Ginger and Garlic are a staple in my kitchen.

  7. Ah, yes! Thank you for reminding me about ginger, Joanna. Garlic and onions have always been a standby in our home. It's so funny--whenever I saute them and someone comes home, they always think something fancy is in the works in the kitchen. But now I'll add garlic and really surprise them!
