D - Daffodils

Victoria grows great daffodils.  They're in everyone's garden, even people who don't plant gardens, because in this climate the bulbs naturalize and spread.    So the daffodils that people planted years ago still pop up in the garden.  Here's what Beacon Hill Park looks like right now.

The meadow is a mass of bobbing yellow heads.  These are the naturalized ones, clear yellow with long stems and trumpets.

Of course there are more specialized bulbs like these ones with some contrasting cream and orange colours.  They're very nice but don't spread like the old fashioned kind.

But no matter what the type, the daffodil is a cheery sign of spring around here.

  4. The picture of the meadow puts me in mind of the Wordsworth poem, "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud." How I love daffodils!
